Here's a story with a twist.......
John Payne was scheduled to be there to
contest Waterford's Race #3 weekend June 23-25, but apparently
went out of town instead. He
told George Mazuro that Mark Mazuro could drive the car in his
place, which he did. Mark had
never raced a SCA, so they got to the track on Friday in time
to get some testing in. By the end of the day not only was the
freshly repaired original white nose still intact, but he had
turned a 1:09.99 lap. That's 2 seconds faster than I've ever
gone in #037, and I believe also faster than John so far
in the same car. Mark raced the car both days and turned
1:10's in traffic, and never put a wheel wrong. As the day
progressed on Sunday, you could really hear the gearbox making
unhappy cement mixer noises so they parked it for the
afternoon race instead of making a bad thing worse.
Now John's main competitor in CSR is,
um.....Mark ; or Brian Bennett
