A total of 5
Shelby CAN AM cars participated in the Historic Sportcar Racing
(HSR) Continental Historics At Daytona on Nov. 8-11, 2007.
Bob Johnston's Shelby CAN AM #038 recorded a career best time of
1:59.729 at Daytona's 24 hour track yesterday. After some
adjustments to the setup by Dalton Zehr and his crew, 038
practiced today at 1:59.321. A few more adjustments and 038 ran
a very respectable 1:57.425 finishing 9th overall
(first in class) to qualify for Sunday's feature race.
Dalton Zehr recently set a short lived track record of 2:04.021
in Bob Johnston's chassis 059, only to be broken on Friday by
Austin Armellini in Captain Tim Kruse' former 069 chassis.
Armellini's new (contested) record stands at 2:01.553. A well
deserved salute to Mr. Armellini for a great drive!
Art Armellini, Austin's father, normally a fierce competitor,
was sidelined most of the weekend with cooling and other
gremlins.
Doug Cohee qualified his chassis 060 at a career best time of
2:05 followed by Dr. Jack Dunn in chassis 063 at 2:20.
038 is powered by a 460 hp, all aluminum, Chevrolet engine. 059,
060, 063 and 069 are powered by the original style Shelby/Dodge
6 cyl engine.
