#042 was owned by Francois Gerber from the time it arrived in S. Africa
in 1999 until February 2001 when John Fitzpatrick and I bought it.
I bought
him out and have driven it in all the VSP Championship races since
then. Francois won the 1999 and 2000 Championships with it but decided
to give up racing at the end of 2000 and that is why he sold it to us.
But the bug would not release him and he bought another VSP 6 months
later.
I preferred the Dodge engine. The Nissan develops power to a peak of
220Kw - on the engine dyno corrected to sea level - (around 300 Hp?)
at 6000 revs but then flattens out until 7000 and then drops off. It
has more torque but all in all I don't think it is any quicker than
the Dodge in current trim. There are some plans to change the intake
trumpets and remap the management system for next season.
