History

Originally purchased by Jeffrey Menachem, N. Woodmere, NY, in November of 1990. The car was delivered to Slim Bryant of Motion Dynamics, Conway , NH , for assembly.

According to the original logbook, the car had its first technical inspection on April 21, 1991 by the New England Region SCCA. Menachem attended a SCCA driver’s school at Pocono Raceway on May 10, 1991 . He campaigned the car, under the watchful eye of Bryant, at Limerock Park, New Hampshire Intl. Speedway, Watkins Glen, Bridgehampton, Texas World Speedway, Mid-Ohio, Moroso and Sebring International Raceway until it was brokered by Ferrari of Long Island (NY) to Kermit O’Neal of Alamo Sports Cars, San Antonio, Texas in 1999.

O’Neal rented the car to various drivers in numerous club events in Texas and Oklahoma until it was spotted by Robert Johnston at a Shelby Cobra Automobile of Texas event at the Motorsport Ranch in Cresson , Texas in April, 2001. Johnston purchased the car in October, 2001 and transported it to W. Palm Beach , Florida for restoration.

Johnston raced #38 in numerous SCCA, HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) and other events at Daytona International Speedway, Sebring International, Moroso Motorsports Park, Homestead Raceway and Roebling Road, Savannah, Georgia from 2001 to 2005.

In August of 2003 chassis 038 was fitted with an al -aluminum, LS derivative, Chevrolet engine. Very few changes were needed to the chassis and no changes were needed to the original bodywork. The car appears original in all respects except for the V8 sound and tremendous increase in performance.

In April of 2005 the car was transported to California to be raced within HSR-West, VARA, NASA and SCCA Vintage events at Laguna Seca, Sears Point (Infineon), Buttonwillow and California Speedway.

Note: The original SCCA/Shelby CAN AM logbook shows a picture of 038 in the original gel-coat white with the number 38 on each side and nose. Chassis 021 appears in the background in the same gel-coat white. Both cars sport the Motion Dynamics logo.
